What is the purpose of the USDA Certified Biobased Product label?

The USDA Certified Biobased Product label is designed to provide useful information to consumers about the biobased content of the product. The label assures a consumer that the product contains a USDA-verified amount of renewable biological ingredients.

What are the benefits of biobased products?

Biobased products provide all the benefits as conventional products: they are cost- comparative, readily available (made by small companies and large corporations), and perform as well or better than their petroleum-containing counterparts.

    Environment

Biobased products also help us increase our use of renewable resources while decreasing our use of non-renewable resources, such as petroleum. Biobased products displace around 300 million gallons of petroleum per year in the U.S., which is the equivalent of taking 200,000 cars off the road.

This carefully balanced formula ensures you get the functionality you need, while making a more sustainable choice.

Our products are made using a % of BIO-PE, a renewable, plant-based material derived from sugarcane. While they are not compostable, they are fully recyclable through traditional soft plastics recycling streams.

We’re often asked why we don’t make compostable bags. The reason is simple: most compostable plastics are made with PBAT, a petrochemical-derived material designed to break down in industrial composting facilities — not at home. When composted at home, these materials often fail to break down properly and can actually degrade into microplastics, causing more harm than good.

These materials also often require very specific temperature and moisture conditions to maintain their shelf life and performance. Outside of those conditions, their durability can break down prematurely.

By choosing BIO-PE, we offer a more stable, reliable, and sustainable alternative. We reduce dependence on fossil fuels and create a product that supports a more reliable and circular recycling system.

    Great product

The bags are excellent. I used them mainly as freezer bags. They are strong and I have found they can be washed out, dried and reused a number of times, and when they are eventually discarded I put them in the FOGO bin.

Seems like they’re pretty strong bags but I actually misread . Thought there were more than 20 bags in each box.

Probably wouldn’t have bothered if I realised that but they might surprise me. If they’re as strong as they are supposed to be they might last a while! Time will tell !
